Laura and Kevin// April 8, 2017 // 214 Martin

When I met Laura and Kevin back in January of 2016 and heard about their idea for a modern, hip, black and white wedding with pops of color I knew their big day was going to be as fun as the two of them were. After touring several venues we landed on 214 Martin as the perfect location to carry out their vision and after selecting our dream team I couldn’t be more thrilled with how their day turned out. It even landed a spot in The Perfect Palette back in September. Getting to know the two of them during our year long planning was truly wonderful, they are the sweetest couple and I know our friendship will continue on for years to come. Laura and I already met not long after their wedding to just relive that day and catch up on how their newly married life was treating them. So here is a glimpse into their perfect day! XO~Lynn

The bridal party began their day at the Sheraton getting ready and I still can’t get over how absolutely perfect her dress was, it seemed as if it was made just for her. And that color? Well, you know how much that pleased me. Kevin wasn’t too shabby himself and to watch him interact with his twin brother, who was also his best man, was so fun. The emotion that Devin and Kathryn captured of Laura reading her letter from Kevin and Laura’s father seeing her for the first time still makes me tear up.

The bridal party then made their way to the venue where Laura and Kevin had their first look at each other before the ceremony began. Look closely and you can see Devin hard at work.

The ceremony took place in front of what seemed like a million twinkle lights which made the perfect backdrop for the bridal party in their black suits and dresses. The girls got in on the fun by choosing shoes in bright colors to go with those fabulous gerbera daisy bouquets. The emotion was high before we started but Laura quickly dabbed her tears and dad led her down the aisle to her husband to be.

When the ceremony was over the bridal party headed off on the Raleigh Trolley to take pictures. That’s one of the things I love most about weddings in Downtown Raleigh, all the different spots to get really great pictures.

While the bridal party was off taking pictures we flipped the space for reception bringing in more gerbera daisies and lots of candles.I love all the fun details as well as how they made it personal to them. Kevin’s dog Wazza and Laura’s cat Jasper became best friends so they had to make an appearance and where else but the cake! They both attended Michigan State University (but didn’t meet until they lived in Raleigh) so their love of sports was incorporated in their escort cards where guests dinner entrees were depicted by either the Pittsburgh Steelers, Detroit Tigers or the Michigan Spartans. And because Laura is a teacher her students got involved by writing letters on how to be a good husband and a good wife and we had them displayed for everyone to read. One little boy wrote “buy her lots of Starbucks coffee”, I seriously want to find this young man and shake his hand. Because of their love of animals, in lieu of favors, they chose to make a donation to Wags 4 Tags. This is a charity that rescues dogs from kill shelters, pairs those dogs with a veteran suffering from psychological and emotional injuries and engages the community in thanking our veterans.

Kicking off the reception, the bridal party did not disappoint in getting the night started with having as much fun as they could during their entrance. Kevin and Laura had their first dance as husband and wife under a gorgeous lit grapevine ball chandelier followed by her dance with her father and his dance with his mother. After dinner her dad stole the show by pulling out the Steelers towel during his toast! The dance floor never stopped (and I mean that) and then they shared one last kiss as they headed through their sparkler tunnel into the Rickshaw waiting at the end to drive them off into their Happily Ever After!
